Tesla

This is how to connect FleetLoop to your Tesla account so FleetLoop can check in on your Tesla cars automatically — their location, mileage, battery charge, and tire pressure — instead of you having to ask the renter. FleetLoop can only read this information; it can never lock, unlock, or otherwise control the car.

  • You must be the shop owner. Managers and staff can’t connect or disconnect Tesla tracking.
  • Have the sign-in details for the Tesla account your cars are registered to.
  • Add your Tesla cars to your fleet in FleetLoop first (under Your fleet), so there’s something to match them to.
  • Only one Tesla account can be connected per shop.
  1. In FleetLoop, go to Settings → Integrations → Vehicle tracking.

  1. Click Connect Tesla.
  2. A new browser tab opens Tesla’s own sign-in page. Sign in with the Tesla account for the cars you want to track.
  3. Tesla asks you to approve sharing read-only vehicle data with FleetLoop. Approve it.

  1. Tesla closes the tab and sends you back to FleetLoop. The Tesla card now shows a Connected status with today’s date.

  1. Scroll down to Vehicle links. FleetLoop lists every car it found on your Tesla account.
  2. For any car marked “VIN matches” a fleet vehicle, click Link to confirm the match.
  3. For any car without a suggested match, choose the matching vehicle from the Choose a fleet vehicle… dropdown, then click Link.

  1. Scroll down to Automatic sync. Open the dropdown and choose how often you want FleetLoop to check in:
    • Manual only (default): FleetLoop only checks the car’s location and status when you tap Locate now, or at pickup/return. Nothing happens automatically in the background.
    • Every 15 minutes, Hourly, Every 6 hours, or Daily: FleetLoop checks the car automatically in the background at that pace. More frequent checking uses a little more of the car’s battery, so pick the lightest setting that still works for your shop.

The Tesla card shows a Connected status with the date you connected. Under Vehicle links, each Tesla car shows the fleet vehicle it’s linked to. Under Automatic sync, the dropdown shows the frequency you chose.

The Tesla card says “Needs attention.” Tesla needs you to reconnect. Click Reconnect Tesla and sign in again — your existing vehicle links and sync setting are kept.

“Tesla connection failed.” Something went wrong during sign-in or approval. Click Connect Tesla and try again. If it keeps failing, contact support.

“Could not load your Tesla vehicles.” The car may be asleep, or the connection may need reconnecting. Click Retry — if that doesn’t help, wait a few minutes and try again, since a sleeping car can take a little while to wake up.

No vehicles show up on the connected account. Make sure you signed in with the Tesla account the cars are actually registered to, not a different one.
